US Navy Tests Amphibious Concept at Talisman Saber Exercise

ROCKHAMPTON, Australia — The U.S. Navy has put its up-gunned expeditionary strike group concept into practice within a realistic war-fighting scenario, with allied surface combatants joining an amphibious ready group, or ARG, and its embarked Marines for a major exercise off the coast of Australia.

The Bonhomme Richard ARG was joined by a surface action group, or SAG, made up of the U.S. destroyer Sterett and four Australian frigates at Exercise Talisman Saber 2017, which saw American and Australian forces carry out two major amphibious landings at Australia’s Shoalwater Bay Training Area.

According to Royal Australian Navy Capt. Guy Holthouse, sea combat commander for the Talisman Saber 2017 Combined Amphibious Force, the up-gunned ESG was pitted against a very active and capable adversary that presented a mix of surface, air and subsurface threats using real submarines, aircraft and ships throughout the exercise, which added training value to both U.S. and Australian forces.

Rear Adm. Marc Dalton, commander of the U.S. Navy’s Amphibious Force 7th Fleet, added that Talisman Saber was used “to work on concept development (of the up-gunned ESG), especially for the cruiser/destroyer/frigate integration into the force as we build towards adding the F-35B.”

Dalton noted that the amphibious assault ship Wasp, which will replace the Bonhomme Richard as the Navy’s forward-deployed big-deck amphibious ship in Japan this fall, will start deploying the F-35B at sea in the region in early 2018 and will represent “the first opportunity to operate with the complete package of the up-gunned ESG.”

In addition, a Sikorsky MH-60R Seahawk anti-submarine helicopter from the aircraft carrier Ronald Reagan was also embarked onboard the Bonhomme Richard for a short duration during the exercise, which Amphibious Force 7th Fleet said was for “practicing the up-gunned ESG concept in providing surface/subsurface defense of the ESG.”

Dalton told Defense News that embarking the MH-60R onboard the Bonhomme Richard is one of several options being evaluated to “dynamically reconfigure the capabilities” of the amphibious forces, which he described as being very flexible; “what we’re looking for is what the right situation would be to when we want to bring that capability onto the amphibious ships and what the trade-offs are.”

Philippine Navy Now has Tethered Aerostat Radar System

The Tethered Aerostat Radar System (TARS), low-level airborne ground surveillance system that uses aerostat as radar platform, of Philippine Navy from United States government has finally arrived, MaxDefense Philippines said without giving details where the said platform is stationed and when it arrived.

The aerostats are large fabric envelopes filled with helium, and can rise up to an altitude of 15,000 feet (4,600 m) while tethered by a single cable. The largest lifts a 1000 kg payload to an operating altitude providing low-level, downward-looking radar coverage.

TARS has a Maximum Detection Range of 200 nautical miles.

This is among the military aid provided by US to boost the Philippines’ maritime surveillance capabilities amid West Philippine Sea dispute.

The TARS for Philippine Navy was first announced by US officials in April 2016.

In 2015, the US government announced its five-year Maritime Security Initiative, a commitment to help partner nations like Philippines address common challenges with an overall budget of US$425-million.

“We’ve just released the first tranche of this money, nearly 80 percent of which is going to the Philippines. There it will help modernize the technology and train staff at the Philippines National Coast Watch Center, enhance an information network to enable the sharing of classified communications between U.S. Pacific Command in Hawaii and key Philippines maritime command centers, provide an aerostat reconnaissance platform (airship), and outfit Philippine navy patrol vessels with better sensors so they can see and do more in the region’s waters,” former United States Secretary of Defense Ash Carter said in April 8, 2016.


TNI AU Akan Bangun Pangkalan Udara Tipe C di Jayawijaya

Wamena, Papua (ANTARA News) - Komando Operasi TNI AU II siap membantu pendistribusian kebutuhan bahan pokok kepada masyarakat di pegunungan tengah Papua. TNI AU akan membangun pangkalan udara tipe C di Pegunungan Jayawijaya.

"Saya akan berusaha membantu kelancaran pembangunan atau perkembangan ekonomi di sini melalui penyediaan ataupun melengkapi, atau meningkatkan frekuensi kargo yang mengangkut kebutuhan material yang dibutuhkan," kata Panglima Komando Operasi TNI AU II, Marsekal Muda TNI Yadi Sutanandika, di Wamena, ibukota Kabupaten Jayawijaya, Jumat.

Selain membantu pendistribusian kebutuhan masyarakat, dalam waktu dekat akan dibangun juga pangkalan TNI AU untuk mendukung pelayanan itu.

"Nanti kami bangun pangkalan udara tipe C di sini. Saya dengar ada niat dari masyarakat Jayawijaya memberikan lahan kepada kami untuk mendirikan pangkalan TNI AU," katanya.

Dia memastikan, setelah ada pangkalan TNI AU di sana, frekuensi penerbangan di sana akan meningkat dan dapat membantu pembangunan di sana sebab rata-rata pendistribusian barang ke pegunungan hanya melalui pesawat.

Banyumas, ANTARA JATENG - Kepala Staf TNI Angkatan Udara (KSAU) Marsekal TNI Hadi Tjahjanto mengatakan dalam rencana strategis (renstra) kedua, TNI AU segera memperkuat sistem pertahanan di sejumlah wilayah Indonesia.

"Renstra kedua, kami akan memperkuat di Natuna, kemudian di Tarakan, Morotai, Biak, Merauke, kemudian di Kupang. Dalam hal ini kami juga akan membangun pangkalan yang ada di Selaru sesuai dengan kebijakan-kebijakan Panglima TNI," katanya usai membuka kegiatan Bakti Sosial dan Karya Bakti TNI Angkatan Udara di Kabupaten Banyumas, Jawa Tengah, Minggu.

Sementara yang sedang berjalan untuk renstra kedua 2014-2019, kata dia, TNI AU juga akan memperkuat sistem pertahanan di antaranya pengadaan pesawat tempur pengganti pesawat F5.

Selain itu, lanjut dia, penambahan pesawat Hercules tipe J, penambahan pesawat-pesawat latih termasuk pesawat helikopter, dan penambahan 12 radar.

Menurut dia, penambahan radar itu sangat penting karena bisa mengawal dan mengamati seluruh wilayah Negara Kesatuan Republik Indonesia.

"Dan yang sangat penting lagi, rencana pesawat `drone` tanpa awak di Natuna dan Tarakan dengan kemampuan MALE (pesawat tanpa awak buatan PT Dirgantara Indonesia), terbang 24 jam sampai 36 jam dengan jarak jangkau kurang lebih 2.000 kilometer. Itu yang akan kami tempatkan dalam renstra kedua ini di Tarakan dan Natuna," katanya.

Sementara dalam renstra ketiga, kata dia, TNI AU akan menempatkan pesawat tanpa awak di Morotai dan Selaru.

Dengan demikian, lanjut dia, TNI AU dapat melihat pengamanan di hampir seluruh wilayah Indonesia mulai dari samudra hingga daratan dengan menggunakan pesawat tanpa awak.

Terkait dengan hal itu, KSAU mengatakan pihaknya telah membangun jaringan komunikasi data (network centric corporation) di TNI AU dan akan dikembangkan di Markas Besar TNI.

"Kemungkinan juga pada tingkatan yang lebih tinggi sehingga seluruh informasi di negeri kita ini bisa terpantau dari `drone` dan bisa disebarkan ke seluruh satuan-satuan yang ada di bawah dan tidak bisa dibohongi karena semua menggunakan sistem digital yang bisa dibaca, di mana ada ancaman, entah itu ancaman laut, ancaman darat, ancaman udara, itu yang sekarang sedang kita bangun," katanya.

Ia mengharapkan pada renstra ketiga, dari TNI Angkatan Laut, Angkatan Udara, dan Angkatan Darat yang ada di perbatasan sudah satu komando dalam jaringan komunikasi data atau "network centric corporation". 


PH Now Covers 85% of Entire Airspace with 13 Radars

Philippines’ air traffic radars are now up at 13 from 3, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said. With 13 radars the Philippines can now monitor 85% of its entire airspace to provide safer and more efficient flights.

“Definite air travel, established aircraft identification, and guaranteed air passenger safety and security are now within reach through the new Communications Navigation Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM),” DOTr said.

“On September 2017, an additional satellite-based CNS/ATM will be turned over to DOTr-CAAP to enable 100% coverage of the PH airspace,” DOTr added.

CNS/ATM system is a state-of-the-art computer and satellite based air traffic management technology is the same technology that is being used by Australia, Taiwan, and other European states.

“The CNS/ATM project was started in 2009, but due to delay in construction and other challenges, it did not hit its target completion in 2016. Upon Secretary Art Tugade’s assumption into office, he ordered the CAAP to fast-track the project,” DOTr said.

“The CNS/ATM system is now in parallel operations with the existing technology and will be fully operational by December 2017,” it added.

Moscow.INTERFAX.RU - The production facilities of the United Aircraft Corporation are ready to implement large export contracts for the delivery of the Su-35, UAC President Yury Slyusar told Interfax.

"The production capacity of the Su-35 is such that we are ready right now, without adjusting the contract with the Defense Ministry, to start implementing major foreign contracts," Slyusar said, responding to Interfax's question about the readiness to sell the Su-35 supplies from Indonesia and the UAE.

He stressed that the production capacity exceeds the current level of demand and covers the requirements under the State Defense Order.

Viktor Kladov, Director for International Cooperation and Regional Policy of the State Corporation Rostek, said earlier that the contract for the supply of Russian multi-purpose super maneuverable Su-35 fighter aircraft has already been agreed upon and will be signed in 2017.

Earlier it was reported that we are talking about the supply of Indonesia's 12 Su-35 aircraft.

The head of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC), Dmitry Shugaev, reported that Russia has begun pre-contract work on deliveries of the Su-35 to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

In April, Russian Industry and Trade Minister Denis Manturov announced that the UAE could buy several dozen Su-35 fighters from the Russian Federation.

The Su-35 fighter was developed at the Sukhoi Design Bureau. It is a deeply modernized super maneuverable multifunctional fighter of the "4 ++" generation.

PUTRAJAYA  – Angkatan Pertahanan Awam Malaysia (APM) bakal memiliki 29 buah bot penyelamat Amphibious Sealegs yang digunakan untuk misi menyelamat ketika bencana alam menjelang hujung tahun.

Menteri di Jabatan Perdana Menteri, Datuk Seri Dr. Shahidan Kassim berkata, sehingga kini APM telah menerima enam bot manakala selebihnya diterima secara berperingkat-peringkat.

“Pertambahan aset itu merupakan antara satu komitmen kerajaan dalam usaha memperkasa pengurusan bencana alam sekali gus berupaya memudahkan usaha menyelamat.

“Penerimaan ini bakal menjadikan APM sebagai pemilik terbanyak Amphibious Sealegs di Malaysia dengan membabitkan kos perolehan berjumlah RM15.7 juta,” katanya dalam sidang akhbar selepas majlis Penyerahan Bot Amphibious Sealegs di sini hari ini.

Yang hadir sama Ketua Pengarah APM, Datuk Azmy Yahya.

Sementara itu Shahidan memberitahu, jumlah keanggotaan APM dijangka mencecah dua juta orang sebelum hujung tahun ini.

Katanya, aspek kecekapan anggota yang dikerah ke lapangan turut dipertingkatkan menerusi pelbagai latihan, bukan sahaja membabitkan ketika banjir tetapi merangkumi bencana lain.

“Malah keperluan mengadakan latihan pengendalian aset harus dipergiatkan, bukan sahaja kepada APM tetapi kepada agensi lain menerusi kerjasama Strategi Lautan Biru Kebangsaan (NBOS).

“Perancangan dan persediaan ini haruslah dimulakan lebih awal dengan mengenal pasti atau menjangkakan kejadian yang bakal berlaku, agar mampu mengge­rakkan pelan tindakan dengan segera,” katanya.

At MAST Asia, C-MAX introduced its CM2 side scan sonar to MONS: “We provide both the hardware and the software for the for the CM2 system,” says Hugh Frater, from C-MAX, “which has multiple applications, including hydrographic survey work, port security and, in its military application, mine counter measure (MCM).”

The CM2 exists in two configurations: the DF (100/325kHz) and EDF (325/780kHz). In 100kHz mode, the DF is particularly useful for searching larger objects such as wrecks or freight containers, whereas in 325kHz mode it can distinguish smaller objects such as mooring ropes, anchor chains, anchors, rock or even seabed texture. The EDF on the other hand offers a higher resolution and gives the most detailed images.

“Compared to a multibeam sonar, the CM2 provides real data information that can be analysed and acted upon immediately, as opposed to being processed later,” continues Mr Frater. The system scans the seabed and provides a high-resolution picture that appears on the monitor of the operator and is also recorded for later viewing. It facilitates the detection of objects of interests and is therefore particularly useful for MCM in the naval domain.

“We have sold systems to the Royal Australian Navy, the Indonesian Navy and the Malaysian Navy,” concludes Mr Frater, “which represents approximately 30% of our business.”


Bidding for Acquisition of 2 Patrol Aircraft Fails, Again

The bidding for Department of National Defense (DND)-Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) 2 Long-range Patrol (LRP) aircraft acquisition project under the First Horizon of Revised AFP Modernization failed during today’s Submission and Opening of Bid.

According to MaxDefense Philippines, PAL Aerospace of Canada, PT Dirgantara Indonesia (Persero) Indonesian Aerospace, and Elbit Systems of Israel were the only firms that submitted their bids – all of them were disqualified for different reasons.

It said that Airbus, Lockheed Martin, Leonardo, Embraer, Saab, Boeing, Raytheon, Elta, and Field Aviation were present but did not join the bidding.

MaxDefense also noted that the Approved Budget for Contract (ABC), P5.976 billion, is a key factor.

“The weak PH Peso vs US Dollar/Euro convertion rate, plus escalations due to inflation and time-cost issues are also main issues, with the budget formulated several years ago, which is also a perido when the exchange rate was US$1 = Php45,” MaxDefense said.

This is the second time this acquisition project failed. The first was in August 2014 where 7 bidders including Saab Asia Pacific, L3 Mission Integratio, IAI Elta Systems, Elbit Systems, Lockheed Martin, PT Dirgantara Indonesia (Indonesian Aerospace), and Airbus were all declared ineligible.


U.S. to Sign MOU with Australia for MQ-4C Triton

The United States intends to sign a memorandum of understanding with Australia in March so the country can purchase up to seven MQ-4C Triton unmanned systems to complement its P-8A Poseidon multimission maritime aircraft fleet, according to a selected acquisition report obtained by Inside Defense.

The document also says Germany plans to sign a letter of offer and acceptance in late 2018 for up to four Tritons to replace its Euro Hawk fleet.

The SAR reveals other foreign governments interested in Triton include Canada, Japan, Norway and the United Kingdom.

Triton is outfitted with a de-icing capability that works well for countries operating in cooler climates.

"The mission sensors installed on the MQ-4C Triton provide 360 degree radar and Electro-Optical/Infrared coverage," the document states. "Additional functionality that optimizes the system for maritime search operations includes an Automatic Identification System and an Electronic Support Measures system."

The SAR shows the Northrop Grumman-built MQ-4C's average procurement unit cost of $171.7 million is below the initial development estimate of $177.3 million.

Inside the Navy recently reported the Navy's plan to establish in August the first-ever Triton detachment outside the continental United States.

Both the U.S. Pacific Fleet and U.S. Fleet Forces Command chiefs asked the office of the chief of naval operations to allow the detachment to be based in Guam to support U.S. Pacific Command.

Temon,(kulonprogo.sorot.co)--Radar portable jenis Weibel MR 2 yang didatangkan dari Mabes TNI AU di Jakarta  telah tiba di markas Satuan Radar (Satradar) 215 Congot TNI AU, Kamis (20/07) kemarin. Pada hari ini, personel Satradar 215 Congot mulai melakukan instalasi radar baru yang diperkirakan seharga Rp 190 miliar.

Terdapat beberapa tahapan yang harus dilakukan sebelum radar canggih tersebut bisa dioperasikan. Untuk bisa menggunakan radar canggih tersebut, radar harus benar-benar terletak pada tanah dengan kondisi datar. Untuk mengetahui tingkat kedataran tanah dilakukan proses leveling.

Kemudian, setelah proses leveling selesai, proses selanjutnya yakni penentuan true north atau utara sebenarnya.

Proses selanjutnya yang harus dilakukan yakni menghubungkan antara radar Weibel dengan sambungan sistem komunikasi transmisi data. Setelah melalui proses itulah baru radar Weibel bisa dioperasikan. 

Joko sendiri menyebut bahwa untuk melakukan instalasi, dibutuhkan waktu sekitar 1 minggu.

Air Force Activates 5th Fighter Wing; Defense, Tactical, Mobility Commands

The Philippine Air Force, on July 20, implemented a major reorganization amid the gradual arrival of its different types of aircraft and state-of-the-art equipment.

The Air Force activated the Air Defense Command (ADC) from Air Defense Wing (ADW) which was deactivated at the same event. The 5th Fighter Wing was also reactivated.

The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Air Divisions – also deactivated today – became Tactical Operations Wing under reactivated Tactical Operations Command (TOC). Moreover, the 600th, 560th, and 530th Air Base Wings were downgraded to Air Base Groups.

“With the TOC, ADC, and AMC, we shall carry on performing our mission. We shall carry on being the JET Force for greater peace and security. We shall continue to demonstrate our collective resolve and political will to seek, keep, and sustain peace at all cost,” the Air Force commander said.

Lieutenant General Fallorina underscored that organizational changes and development are important considering the “prevailing strategic realities and operational requirements” of the Armed Forces.

Fallorina also vowed that changes will not affect the number of personnel and current air assets. ““For all intents and purposes, ang lahat ng pagbabago na ito are seen to fortify our JET FORCE strength and courage, and their projection, both for real application and deterrence,” he said.

Perkuat Pertahanan Udara, TNI AU Pasang Radar dengan Radius 550 Km

KULONPROGO - TNI Angkatan Udara akan mengganti radar yang terpasang di Satradar TNI AU 215, Congot, Kabupaten Kulonprogo. Peralatan militer tersebut nantinya akan diganti dengan radar Weibel buatan Denmar untuk mendukung sistem pertahanan nasional. 

“Radar baru ini akan mampu menjelajah hingga 550 kilometer, setara Solo-Jakarta,” kata Komandan Satradar TNI AU 215 Congot, Mayor Lek Joko Dwi Maryanto, Kamis (20/7/2017).

Radar ini akan menjadi bagian dari alat utama sistem persenjataan (alutsista). Radar ini memiliki dua komponen besar yang terpisah, berupa primary surveillance radar (PSR) dan secondary surveillance radar (SSR).

"Radar ini sangat penting untuk mendukung tugas kita bidang Pertahanan Udara dan mengamankan perbatasan laut dan udara, mengingat di sebelah kita ada Australia,” ujarnya.

Radar ini akan mampu mendeteksi infiltirasi (pesawat dengan sengaja terbang melewati batas wilayah udara NKRI dengan mematikan transponder). PSR mampu menangkap dan mengidentifikasi target bergerak di wilayah udara tanpa transponder. Artinya bisa mendeteksi seluruh pesawat atau media yang terbang di udara dalam radius sekitar 300 kilometer. 

Sementara radar SSR, memantau media/wahana bergerak yang memakai transponder dengan radius sekitar 550 kilometer atau setara Solo-Jakarta. “Radar sudah dikirim dari Mako Kohanudnas Jakarta dengan pengawalan ketat TNI. Ini masih di perjalanan,” jelasnya. (SindoNews)

Pertama di Indonesia, Satradar 215 Congot Terima Alutsista Baru Buatan Denmark 

Temon,(kulonprogo.sorot.co)--Semenjak dioperasikan pertama kali pada tahun 1962, alat utama sistem pertahanan (alutsista) berupa radar milik Satuan Radar (Satradar) 215 Congot TNI AU belum pernah mendapatkan penggantian alat. Imbasnya, jarak pelacakan radar tersebut mengalami penurunan.

Pada awal difungsikan, radar tersebut mampu melacak keberadaan objek terbang di angkasa sepanjang 180 nautical mile atau sekitar 300 kilometer. Namun saat ini radar tersebut hanya mampu melacak dengan jarak sepanjang 90 nautical mile atau sekitar 150 kilometer.

Komandan Satradar 215 Congot TNI AU, Mayor Lek Joko Dwi Maryanto menyebutkan bahwa hari ini pihaknya akan mendapatkan alat radar baru sebagai pengganti alat radar yang lama.

“Hari ini kami kedatangan radar baru berjenis Weibel buatan Denmark. Harganya sekitar Rp 190 miliar," ucap Joko, Kamis (20/07/2017).

Radar baru buatan Denmark tersebut diantar melalu jalan darat Pantai Selatan Jawa (Pansela) menggunakan 4 kontainer terpisah dari Markas Besar TNI AU di Jakarta. Rencananya, siang ini radar baru tersebut akan tiba di markas Satradar 215 Congot beserta dengan para teknisi dari Denmark.

Joko menambahkan bahwa radar tersebut merupakan radar baru dan Satradar 215 Congot menjadi satuan TNI AU pertama yang dipercaya mengoperasikan radar tersebut. Rencananya, selain Satradar 215 Congot, alat radar serupa juga akan dipasang di Pangkalan Militer TNI AU, Kabupaten Natuna, Kepulauan Riau.

“Kebetulan ketika tahun 2014 saya ikut mengambil radar Weibel itu. Setelah saya ditugaskan di Congot melihat kondisi radar yang lama, kemudian saya mengusulkan pembaharuan radar ketika ada kunjungan KASAU 10 Juli lalu karena memang ada radar baru dan ada di Indonesia," sambung Joko. (Sorot)

Third F-35A Forges Ahead

Air Force’s third Australian F-35A Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter (A35-003) is progressing along the production line in the United States (US). 

The program’s milestone coincided with a visit by Australian Ambassador to the US Mr Joe Hockey, who toured the Lockheed Martin, Fort Worth facility where the F-35A Joint Strike Fighters are being assembled. 

Meeting with Lockheed Martin representatives and Joint Strike Fighter Division’s US embedded staff, Mr Hockey was briefed on the achievements of the F-35 Program. He signed the bulkhead of the aircraft as it made its way down the assembly line at the Fort Worth facility. 

Head Joint Strike Fighter, Air Vice-Marshal (AVM) Leigh Gordon said the A35-003 was the first of the next batch of eight Australian F-35s currently in production in Fort Worth to begin the “mate” process, where major components of the aircraft were joined together to form the aircraft structure.

“The aircraft will then make its way down the assembly line and through its check flights in preparation for delivery in early 2018,” AVM Gordon said. 

A35-003 is the first F-35 to be assembled for Australia since the delivery of the first two RAAF F-35A’s in 2014. 

“Like its two RAAF F-35A stablemates, A35-003 will be delivered to Luke Air Force Base Arizona in early 2018, where it will be used for F-35 pilot and maintainer training until permanently re-locating to Australia in 2020,” AVM Gordon said. 

AVM Gordon said as Australia was a strategic partner in the global F-35 Program it was delivering significant benefits to Australian industry. 

“As with every F-35 being produced, A35-003 includes components made by Australian companies, with more than $800m in production contracts so far.” 

“More than 50 Australian companies have directly shared in production work to date, with hundreds more Australian companies who are indirectly benefiting through supply chain work,” he said. 

“Australian industry will also be closely involved in sustaining the RAAF F-35As and providing through-life support services for the global fleet.” 

Defence estimates industry involvement in F-35 production is expected to reach $2 billion by 2023.

PH Completes Inspection of Raytheon for FA-50’s Air-to-Air Missiles

The Philippine has completed post qualification inspections for Raytheon Missile Systems Co. last week in United States for Fighter/Surface Attack/Lead-in Fighter Trainer (F/SA/LIFT) Aircraft Munitions Acquisition Project Lot 1.

According to MaxDefense Philippines, Raytheon is in the running to supply AIM-9L/I-1 Sidewinder air-to-air missiles for the Philippine Air Force’s FA-50 Fighting Eagle aircraft.

“If the results are positive, it won’t be long before a Notice of Award will be provided,” MaxDefense said.

MaxDefense added that air-to-air missiles being acquired are also for “future aircraft capable of carrying and firing the missiles.”

However, MaxDefense noted the decrease in Approved Budget for Contract (ABC) for the F/SA/LIFT Aircraft Munitions Acquisition Project Lot 1.

It noted that ABC was decreased to PHP 1.016 billion for unspecified number of AIM-9L/I-1 missiles including associated accessories and support, from PHP 2.636 billion for 312 missiles.

“Budget decrease was also made as the PAF opted to increase the budget to acquire AGM-65G Maverick missiles (Lot 2) instead, diverting almost half the original ABC for F/SAA/LIFT Munitioms Lot 1 to Lot 2,” MaxDefense said.

AGM-65 Maverick is an air-to-ground tactical missile (AGM) designed for close air support.

F/SA/LIFT Aircraft Munitions Acquisition Project is divided into several Lots. Lots 3 and 4 are for Countermeasures and 20mm Ammunition, respectively.

TNI AU Tambah Pesawat Tempur Perkuat Keamanan Udara di NTT

KUPANG, KOMPAS.com - Kepala Staf TNI Angkatan Udara Marsekal TNI Hadi Tjahjanto mengatakan, pihaknya akan mendatangkan pesawat tempur T50 untuk menjaga keamanan wilayah Provinsi Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT).

Penambahan pesawat tempur itu, sebut Hadi, mengingat lokasi wilayah NTT yang sangat strategis karena berbatasan dengan dua negara, yakni Timor Leste dan Australia.

"Dalam waktu dekat akan didatangkan pesawat tempur T50 dan tanggal 21 Juli ini sudah hadir di Kupang," kata Hadi, saat acara jamuan makan malam bersama gubernur NTT, Selasa (18/7/2017) malam.

“Terkait dengan pertahanan negara, NTT memiliki nilai yang sangat tinggi, oleh sebab itu kami hadir di sini dalam rangka menginventarisir kekuatan, khususnya kekuatan udara yang perlu ditingkatkan," sambungnya.

Selain itu, lanjut Hadi, pada rencana strategis tahap dua, pihaknya akan menambah sembilan buah pesawat Kasa.

Satu pesawat akan ditempatkan di bandara Lanud El Tari Kupang, sehingga kegiatan-kegiatan pemerintah daerah, kapolda NTT dan danrem Wira Sakti Kupang. Apabila ada permasalahan-permasalahan di luar Kupang segera bisa ditindaklanjuti dengan cepat.

Sementara itu, Gubernur NTT Frans Lebu Raya mengatakan, sebagai daerah kepulauan, dengan 1.192 pulaunya, Provinsi NTT memiliki wilayah seluas 247.000 kilometer (km) persegi, di mana luas daratan 47.000 km persegi dan 200.000 km persegi. Untuk menjangkau pulau-pulau itu, memang pihaknya tentu akan membutuhkan fasilitas yang lebih memadai.

"Bagaimana supaya kalau ada kejadian di Flores kami bisa sampai ke Flores, kalau ada kejadian di Sumba kami juga bisa segera tiba di sana dengan cepat," ucap Frans.

Frans pun meminta kepada KSAU agar terus membantu mendorong pembangunan Pos Lintas Batas Negara (PLBN) antara Kabupaten Kupang dan Oekusi (Timor Leste).

“Untuk perbatasan Oekusi dan Kabupaten Kupang sering terjadi masalah, namun untuk di Pos Motaain, Wini dan Motamasin hampir tidak ada masalah," tutup Frans.


Russia, Malaysia Sign Agreement on Modernization of Malaysian MiG-29

ZHUKOVSKIY (Moscow Region) (Sputnik) — The document was signed by Russian Aircraft Corporation (RAC) MiG Director General Ilya Tarasenko and Malaysian Air Force representative Mohamed Fadzar bin Sufad on the margins of the MAKS.

"The agreement confirms the extension of our contractual obligations for the Malaysian Air Forces on the operation of MiG-29 fighter jets. The RAC MiG will continue its cooperation with the Malaysian Air Forces and will provide technical support for these aircraft," Tarasenko said.

The MiG-29 supply contract was signed in Kuala Lumpur on June 7, 1994. The total contract value of 18 Russia-supplied aircraft was estimated at $560 billion. The MiG Corporation assumed the obligation to make the necessary adjustments and adapt the aircraft to Malaysian humid tropical climate. Malaysian MiG aircraft have come to be known as MiG-29N and MJG-29NUB, and formed Squadron 17 and Squadron 19 of the Royal Malaysian Air Force.


Indonesia Completes Installation of SATCOM Systems Across LPDs and Surface Combatants

The Indonesian Navy (Tentara Nasional Indonesia - Angkatan Laut) has completed the installation of Ku-band stabilised parabolic antennas with radar domes, and associated satellite communication (SATCOM) systems on four of its landing platform dock ships, and across the Diponegoro (SIGMA) and Bung Tomo classes of surface combatants.

According to information provided to Jane's by TNI-AL and industry sources, the installations were done between mid-2016 and early-2017 by PT Patra Telekomunikasi Indonesia, which is a subsidiary of majority state-owned Telkom Indonesia.

The SATCOM system allows the ships to receive and transmit of two-way data and voice traffic, which can be used for communication applications such as email, web browsing, and voice over internet protocol (VOIP).

Jane's understands that coverage for such services on the Ku-band are available at most of the maritime regions that the TNI-AL vessels are expected to operate in, although the band is more susceptible to rain fade than C-band systems.

The TNI-AL is expected to equip more of its ships with SATCOM systems, although no details on which vessels these may be are immediately available. This is in line with a wider effort by the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) to adopt more of such communication systems in the future.

The TNI currently relies on a satellite owned by Telkom Indonesia, for its satellite communication purposes. This satellite operates on both the Ku- and C-bands. There are also plans to further utilise a satellite owned by the People's Bank of Indonesia, known as BRIsat, which occupies the orbital slot of 150.5 degrees east longitude, once it is fully operational.

Ukroboronprom: Contract with Thailand for Supply of Oplot Tanks will be Executed in Full

Ukraine will fully execute the contract signed in 2011 for the supply to Thailand of new Oplot-T tracked armored vehicles manufactured at Malyshev Plant (Kharkiv), Ukroboronprom state concern has stated.

“It (the contract) will be executed in accordance with all the agreements provided. The executor of this order and the manufacturer of Oplot tanks is Malyshev plant, which is part of the concern,” a press release from the state concern reads.

Ukroboronprom Director General Roman Romanov stated the state concern also has enough production capacity to fulfill the order for the deliveries of Oplot armored vehicles to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“Ukroboronprom is able to produce the best Oplot tanks for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the mass production of these vehicles is well established,” he said.
